Jagmeet Singh Issues Apology After Drake Labels Him a ‘Goof’ Over Kendrick Lamar Concert Appearance

Former Canadian politician Jagmeet Singh found himself at the center of an unexpected social media controversy after hip-hop heavyweight Drake publicly called him a “goof” for attending a Kendrick Lamar concert in Toronto.

On June 15, Drake shared a private Instagram DM exchange on his Story, exposing Singh's past admiration and a more recent moment of perceived disloyalty. The screenshot revealed Singh had once thanked Drake for a follow in 2019 but now, his appearance at Kendrick’s Grand National Tour didn’t sit well with the OVO boss.

Trying to de-escalate the situation, Singh responded on his own Instagram Story.

“I went for SZA, not Kendrick,” he wrote. “I was born in this city. I love this city. But real talk, I get it. I shouldn’t have gone at all.”

Singh continued with an attempt to reaffirm his loyalty: “OVO and Drake have lifted up this city and [Canada]. For me it’ll always be Drake over Kendrick.”

Despite the apology, Drake seemingly unfollowed Singh shortly afterward. Singh, however, still follows the Toronto rapper. The incident has sparked debates online about loyalty, fandom, and politics crossing into pop culture.

Fallout From the Kendrick vs. Drake Feud Hits Toronto

Kendrick Lamar’s tour stop in Toronto reignited buzz surrounding his feud with Drake, with fans chanting for an encore of the diss track “Not Like Us”—which Kendrick declined to perform again.

Meanwhile, R&B artist SiR added fuel to the feud’s ripple effects, revealing that his 2024 Toronto show was canceled due to the tension. “Drake did it,” SiR joked on stage. He clarified that the venue, allegedly partially owned by Drake, pulled the plug due to concerns over proximity to the feud. Alternate venues also declined, fearing potential drama.
