Joyner Lucas has fired back with humor and a hint of menace in response to Skepta’s new diss track, "Friendly Fire." In the song, Skepta took multiple shots at the Massachusetts rapper, questioning his relevance and lyrical prowess.
Over the weekend, Lucas responded on X (formerly Twitter) by posting a video of himself listening to the track. The rapper could be seen smirking as Skepta dropped lines like calling him a “bastard” in the second verse.
But when Skepta went on to question whether Lucas had released a hit recently, the American rapper abruptly paused the track and simply said, “Alright, say less, my boy,” before cutting the video.
His tweet also included a laughing emoji in response to Drake’s recent claim that the UK produces the best rappers in the game.
The Spark Behind the Transatlantic Tension
This war of words didn’t come out of nowhere. It all began when Lucas took offense to a comment from Skepta suggesting that UK rappers would dominate American MCs in a battle. Lucas, clearly up for the challenge, replied on X stating that he had been waiting for this moment, name-dropping Skepta and pushing for a #UKvsUS lyrical face-off.
That call-out ignited a back-and-forth exchange. Skepta downplayed the challenge at first, mispronouncing Lucas' name deliberately and suggesting he wasn’t worth a full-blown response. Lucas, in turn, mocked Skepta’s state of mind, jokingly asking what drugs the London rapper was on while writing his bars. Eventually, Skepta dropped "Friendly Fire," escalating the feud and now, the ball is squarely in Lucas’ court.
In the background, Drake has fueled the UK pride, stating that London rappers are superior and even brought out Skepta during his second night headlining the 2025 Wireless Festival.
