R. Kelly’s Lawyers Demand Immediate Release, Claim Inmate Was Solicited to Kill Him

R. Kelly’s attorneys have filed an emergency motion demanding his immediate release from federal custody, claiming the R&B singer’s life is in serious danger. The motion, filed Tuesday accuses prison officials of orchestrating a plot to have Kelly murdered while incarcerated at a federal penitentiary in North Carolina, where he is currently serving a 30-year sentence.

The legal filing includes a sworn statement from Mikeal Glenn Stine, a terminally ill inmate and self-identified leader of the Aryan Brotherhood. Stine alleges that prison officials offered him early release in exchange for assassinating Kelly. According to Stine, he was told the motive behind the plot was to prevent Kelly and his attorneys from exposing sensitive information. The motion also claims officials intercepted Kelly’s privileged communications, potentially violating his rights.

Alarming Allegations and Growing Threats

In a stunning turn, Stine says he ultimately refused to carry out the murder and instead informed Kelly of the plan. He claims that officials warned him he would be charged with the killing, but any incriminating evidence would be tampered with to ensure no conviction. The situation reportedly escalated in June, when Kelly’s attorneys learned that a second Aryan Brotherhood member was instructed to kill both Kelly and Stine.

Kelly’s legal team now argues that his life is at immediate risk, noting that more Aryan Brotherhood members have been transferred into his unit.

“One of them will surely do what Mr. Stine has not,” the motion warns, “thereby burying the truth.”

Attorney Beau B. Brindley has requested the court grant Kelly a temporary furlough under home detention. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago declined to comment on the motion.

Kelly, whose legal name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was convicted in 2021 on racketeering and sex crimes, later receiving a 30-year prison sentence. His convictions and sentence were upheld on appeal earlier this year.
