SZA is making it clear she’s not here for the misinformation or the public shaming of Megan Thee Stallion. As speculation swirls on social media about Tory Lanez’s innocence in the 2020 shooting incident involving Megan, SZA stepped into the conversation with a powerful statement.
The Grammy-winning artist commented on an Instagram post promoting claims that Lanez might be exonerated. She didn't hold back, expressing her disbelief at the amount of backlash Megan continues to receive despite being legally recognized as a victim.
“The density !!!!! I’m actually SO shocked at the amount of ppl fully comfortable bullying a woman that’s proven to be a victim of assault ??!” SZA wrote. “Like out loud where other ppl can see you ?? Lmao u finna be stupid OUTLOUD ?”
Her comment echoed the frustration many have voiced about how women—especially Black women—are often treated when they come forward as victims of violence.
SZA’s Support Sparks Renewed Debate Over New Testimony
The renewed controversy stems from a press conference held on May 14 by Unite the People, a nonprofit advocating for legal reform in California. During the event, Walter Roberts, a consultant for the group, introduced a man named Bradley James, who claims to have worked as the driver and bodyguard for Kelsey Harris, Megan’s former friend and a key witness.
Roberts stated that James felt morally compelled to speak out. According to James, Lanez never pulled the trigger.
“Tory grabbed her arm and knocked it down, and the gun fired two more times,” Roberts said. “In essence, [he] never shot anybody, never even touched that gun.”
Despite the sensational claims, Megan’s lawyer Alex Spiro firmly shut down the speculation.
“Tory Lanez was tried and convicted by a jury of his peers,” Spiro emphasized. “This was a violent assault, not a political debate.”
SZA’s public support adds another layer of visibility to Megan’s side and reminds the public to protect, not punish, victims.
