Nearly a month into music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs’s federal sex-trafficking trial, defense attorneys continued their intense cross-examination of a former girlfriend known in court as “Jane.” On Wednesday, the legal team aimed to dismantle her claims that Combs manipulated her into a relationship in 2021, which she says quickly spiraled into years of coercion, control, and non-consensual encounters with other men.

According to Jane’s testimony, she was drawn in by Combs’s charm and wealth, only to later endure a dark and degrading reality. She alleges that for over three years, she was pressured into sexual acts with other men all orchestrated by Combs and against her will.

Feisty Cross-Examination and Key Testimony

Tensions ran high during Tuesday’s courtroom exchange. Defense attorney Teny Geragos aggressively questioned Jane about explicit messages she sent to Combs and luxury gifts she accepted, including a Bottega Veneta handbag. Jane responded sharply, asking, “How much does my body cost?” a moment that drew a rebuke from the judge for her defiance.

Jane’s testimony follows that of Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who previously described similar coercion by Combs in the 2010s. Together, these accounts form the foundation of the prosecution’s argument: that Combs used wealth, power, intimidation, and violence to exploit women.

Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and facilitating prostitution across state lines. A conviction on all counts could result in a life sentence.

Prosecutor Maurene Comey indicated Wednesday that the government may rest its case as early as June 18, with two more witnesses expected and a final summary witness prepared to present records.

In an effort to recast the relationship as genuine, the defense played a video from October 2023 showing Combs and Jane expressing mutual affection  despite her earlier testimony describing that time as one of emotional distress.

Jane also confirmed that Combs once spent $15,000 on a lavish birthday dinner for her and her friends, though she downplayed the event, calling it merely “an okay time.”
