Charles Barkley Comments on Sports Teams Declining White House Visits Amid Eagles' Rumored Snub

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has weighed in on the ongoing debate about sports teams declining White House invitations under President Donald Trump. His comments come after rumors circulated that the Philadelphia Eagles might skip the visit following their Super Bowl LIX victory.

Speaking on “The Steam Room,” Barkley did not hold back his criticism. He dismissed the idea that teams should decline the invitation simply because they disagree with Trump. 

"I don’t care who the president is. He’s the president of the United States," Barkley said. 

He stressed that the White House visit is meant to honor athletic achievements, not serve as a political statement.Barkley also pointed out that while he does not always agree with Trump, he would still show him the respect that comes with the office. He voiced frustration over the growing divide in the country, calling it disappointing that political disagreements are influencing sports traditions.

The Eagles previously declined a White House visit during Trump’s first term due to controversies surrounding national anthem protests. Now, with Trump back in office, the debate has resurfaced. Many teams have skipped White House visits under different administrations, but Barkley believes the practice is harmful to national unity.
