New York City Mayor Eric Adams has come out swinging against Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani after his stunning primary victory over three-term former Governor Andrew Cuomo. In an interview Wednesday morning on “Fox & Friends,” Adams accused Mamdani of campaigning on impossible promises and misleading the public.
He said Mamdani ran on a platform filled with fantasy proposals that the mayor of New York cannot actually deliver. The 33-year-old state Assembly member from Queens campaigned on freezing rents for regulated apartments offering free public buses and childcare and opening city-run grocery stores. Mamdani also promised to fund his $10 billion plan by increasing taxes on the city’s top 1% earners.
Adams Slams Mamdani’s Platform As Unrealistic And Misleading
Adams dismissed Mamdani’s platform as unrealistic and claimed that only the state government could raise income taxes. He criticized Mamdani’s campaign for making it seem like the mayor’s office has the power to enforce those policies.
“He was saying anything to get elected,” Adams said.
He emphasized that Mamdani does not fully grasp the limits of mayoral authority and warned voters not to be fooled by the flashy promises. Adams added that raising the standard of living takes careful planning and sound governance not headline-grabbing ideas that sound good but cannot be implemented.
Adams who is 64 has announced he will run in the general election as an independent. Meanwhile Mamdani is gaining national attention as a rising star in the Democratic Socialist movement after unseating one of the most experienced politicians in the race. The November election is expected to be one of the most contentious in New York’s recent political history.
