FBI Reveals Chinese Election Interference Plot Hidden Since 2020

FBI Director Kash Patel has delivered declassified intelligence documents to Congress detailing an alleged plan by the Chinese Communist Party to interfere in the 2020 election. The documents were provided to Senator Chuck Grassley who had raised concerns about the lack of transparency in previous investigations. The intelligence points to the production of thousands of fake U.S. driver’s licenses by Chinese-backed actors. These fake IDs were allegedly intended to be used in mail-in voting to favor Joe Biden in key battleground states.

“The FBI has located documents which detail alarming allegations related to the 2020 U.S. election, including allegations of interference by the CCP.”

The FBI reportedly became aware of the plot in August 2020 but for unclear reasons the related intelligence was later recalled. Around that time U.S. Customs and Border Protection had seized nearly 20000 bogus licenses. Biden ended up winning states like Arizona and Georgia by margins under 15000 votes. Patel’s move to declassify and release the documents marks a significant development in the effort to review foreign influence in U.S. elections.

FBI Reveals Plot Involving Fake Licenses And Mail-In Ballots

The FBI did not fully disclose the scale or response to the plot in 2020 and the reasons for recalling the intelligence are still unknown. Patel thanked Senator Grassley for pushing for answers and vowed the bureau would now operate with transparency. The FBI’s spokesperson emphasized that the intelligence reports include serious allegations about election interference. They also noted that the evidence had been deemed credible but was not shared publicly at the time.

The new intelligence adds to long-standing concerns about China’s role in digital and electoral interference and raises new questions about how federal agencies handled the situation in real-time.
