Tom Hanks’ SNL Return as Trump Supporter ‘Doug’ Sparks Outrage Among MAGA Fans

Tom Hanks’ recent performance on Saturday Night Live (SNL) has sparked heated reactions from MAGA supporters across the country. The actor reprised his role as Doug, a Trump-supporting conservative, during the show's 50th-anniversary special. 

"His appearance on the sketch comedy program, known for its sharp political satire, has drawn criticism for allegedly mocking Trump supporters."

Hanks first introduced the character in 2016, donning a red "Make America Great Again" hat and participating in a "Black Jeopardy" sketch. The character, portrayed as a working-class, right-leaning American, returned for the milestone episode, reigniting debates about Hollywood’s treatment of conservative values.

During the segment, host Kenan Thompson, playing Darnell Hayes, opened the sketch with a tongue-in-cheek reference to Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance. Hanks’ character, with his signature folksy charm, answered trivia questions while making subtle jabs at societal and political divisions.

While some viewers appreciated the humor, others were less amused. MAGA supporters flooded social media with accusations that Hanks and SNL were out of touch with everyday Americans. They argued that the sketch reduced their beliefs to a comedic punchline while ignoring the real concerns of conservative communities.

"Hanks might be a Hollywood favorite, but this sketch just showed how disconnected he is from real Americans," said one Trump supporter on X (formerly Twitter).

The sketch has sparked discussions about the role of comedy in politics and whether Hollywood elites should tread more carefully when addressing deeply held beliefs. Supporters of the show argue that satire has always been a tool for exposing societal contradictions and that no political group is immune from its sharp humor.

As the controversy continues to swirl online, Hanks has not publicly responded to the backlash.
