Rep. Jasmine Crockett caused controversy during a House Judiciary Committee hearing this week when she launched a harsh personal attack on former First Lady Melania Trump. While discussing immigration policy Crockett accused Republicans of hypocrisy and then shifted the debate to Trump’s family.
She took aim at Melania’s immigration history and mocked her career achievements. Crockett claimed that Melania did not meet the qualifications for the EB-1 visa known as the “Einstein visa” and questioned how she was approved for one. The visa is reserved for people with extraordinary abilities in fields like science arts and athletics.
Social Media Backlash Over Crockett’s Comments On First Lady
Crockett said the First Lady was not comparable to top-tier models like Tyra Banks or Naomi Campbell. She explained that the EB-1 visa typically goes to Nobel winners Olympic medalists or those with rare global recognition.
Then she added insult by saying “It doesn’t take an Einstein to see that the math ain’t mathin’ here.”
Melania Trump moved to the United States as a model and received the EB-1 visa in the late 1990s. She later became a citizen in 2006 after marrying Donald Trump. Critics say her professional portfolio met the standards for the visa including major publications and international recognition.
Crockett’s words triggered immediate backlash online where users called her jealous and disrespectful. Many accused her of launching a personal attack that was more about scoring political points than having a meaningful policy discussion.
Some political commentators say such rhetoric does little to foster constructive debate. The criticism has continued to grow with some even calling for a public apology.
