Karen Bass Signs Emergency Order Offering Financial Aid To Raided Immigrant Families

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass signed an executive order this week to offer direct financial aid to immigrants impacted by recent federal ICE operations. The policy will allow eligible individuals to receive one-time cash payments. These payments are intended to help with urgent needs like rent groceries and transportation. The order comes after a wave of immigration raids disrupted families in neighborhoods across the city. Many lost jobs or had their income stopped due to arrests or deportations.

“Our job is to protect all Angelenos and that includes those living in fear due to actions outside of their control,” said Mayor Bass.

Mayor Bass stated that Los Angeles remains a sanctuary city and will support its immigrant population. She emphasized that fear should not prevent people from seeking help or basic survival. The cash aid will be distributed through trusted nonprofit organizations already working in affected communities. Priority will go to households with children or members with disabilities.

Program To Begin Immediately In Partnership With Local Groups

The Mayor’s office has partnered with groups that have experience in immigrant support. Applications for aid will be processed through community centers and local legal aid offices. The total funding amount has not been disclosed but officials say more resources may be added based on need. Critics of the order say it encourages undocumented immigration but supporters argue it protects basic human rights. The city council will review the program after 90 days.
