Karine Jean-Pierre who served as President Biden’s White House press secretary has officially left the Democratic Party and will now identify as an independent. A press release from her book publisher Hachette confirmed her decision and explained that she did not take the move lightly. Her book titled Independent: A Look Inside A Broken White House, Outside The Party Lines will be released in October and highlights her personal journey and frustrations with partisan politics. 

Jean-Pierre has been a long-time figure in Democratic circles and worked with leaders like Kamala Harris and Barack Obama before joining the Biden administration. She became press secretary in 2022 after Jen Psaki stepped down and served until Biden's term ended. Her departure comes after the Democratic Party suffered significant losses in the last election. Jean-Pierre’s book sharply criticizes the party's choices especially during the summer of 2024 which she calls a betrayal that led to Biden stepping out of the presidential race. 

She also voiced disappointment over how internal decisions were made behind closed doors without transparency. She posted a video on Instagram saying her decision came from the heart and encouraged others to avoid political labels.

Jean-Pierre Says America Must Step Beyond Party Lines

She believes that Americans should stop being trapped by political boxes and think independently about national issues. The press release emphasizes her belief in honesty integrity and self-direction over blind party loyalty. 

In one of her final briefings Jean-Pierre defended Biden by saying “He’s had a historic presidency. He’s done more in one term than most presidents have been able to do in two terms.” 

A spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee declined to comment and Biden’s personal office has not responded. Her statement has already stirred national debate and may influence future political realignments.
