President Trump raised the tariff on imported steel to 50% during a rally at the U.S. Steel plant in West Mifflin Pennsylvania. He said the previous 25% tariff let foreign competitors slip through but a 50% rate would finally block them. He promised to protect American jobs and revitalize the steel industry by punishing foreign imports especially from China.
The crowd cheered as Trump declared Pittsburgh would once again be the Steel City. He slammed Chinese steel as weak and dangerous for building America’s future. He said only American-made steel should be used to rebuild the country’s strength. The announcement came right after the court froze parts of Trump’s earlier tariff orders.
Trump also praised a new $14 billion investment from Japan’s Nippon Steel calling it a historic move to strengthen U.S. steel without selling out the company. The deal keeps control of the company with an American board and gives the U.S. government veto power over decisions.

Trump said the deal will keep steel plants open and ensure no jobs are lost. He took shots at past presidents for giving away U.S. industry to China and promised that would never happen again under his watch. He reminded the crowd that Pennsylvania helped him win and he would always defend their future.
“This is an incredible deal for American steel workers, and it includes vital protections to ensure that all steel workers will keep their jobs and all facilities in the United States will remain open and thriving,” Trump said.
Trump also warned foreign leaders that America is no longer an easy target. He said his second term is about fixing trade and rebuilding strength. With the tariffs doubled and new deals in motion, Trump promised a bold new era for American steel.
