Crockett Aims To Lead Oversight Panel Amid Growing Pressure

She confirmed she will run to become the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. The position opened after the death of Rep. Gerry Connolly. Crockett said she hopes her colleagues see her as the right person for the job.

"There is no shortage of things for us to dig into and determine whether there were not only violations of our law but of our Constitution as well," Crockett said.

She said she wants to restore trust in government and will not back down from tough fights. Meanwhile, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she will not run for the post. AOC said the seniority system still makes it hard for her to succeed. She will stay in her current committee role instead. Rep. Stephen Lynch has taken over on an interim basis and confirmed he will run for the permanent post.
