The US Embassy in Qatar has told all American citizens in the country to shelter in place. The emergency message was released Monday morning and came just one day after the United States launched strikes on multiple Iranian nuclear sites.
The embassy said the alert was issued out of an abundance of caution. It did not provide any direct details about threats but urged US citizens to avoid unnecessary movement and remain indoors.
The State Department also issued a global security advisory to Americans traveling or living abroad. It warned that protests and violence against US citizens could rise in the coming days due to the escalating conflict with Iran.
US Strike On Iran Triggers Regional Fallout And Global Warnings
The military strikes targeted three nuclear facilities in Iran—Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. President Donald Trump called the strikes a “spectacular military success” and claimed they had completely destroyed Iran’s nuclear capabilities. In retaliation, Iran fired missiles at Israeli targets injuring civilians and damaging infrastructure in Tel Aviv.
“Iran’s leaders have called the US attack an act of war and promised consequences that will last for generations.”
Russia and China condemned the strike and warned that other nations may now arm Iran with nuclear weapons. The global reaction has sparked fear that the region may spiral into broader conflict.
Qatar is home to a large US military base at Al Udeid and remains a critical location for American forces in the region. The embassy’s shelter-in-place order shows that US officials are concerned about potential backlash or even terror plots in response to the strike.
