President Donald Trump has declared that he and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have secured a peace treaty between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The announcement came on Friday and marks a major diplomatic breakthrough in one of Africa’s deadliest conflicts.
Trump said the war had lasted for decades and was marked by violence death and destruction worse than most modern wars. He added that representatives from both countries will sign the official agreement in Washington on Monday
“This is a Great Day for Africa and quite frankly a Great Day for the World,” Trump wrote on Truth Social..
The treaty was welcomed by international leaders but Trump turned his attention to the Nobel Peace Prize. He said he does not expect to win it even after multiple peace deals. He listed his involvement in calming disputes between Serbia and Kosovo Egypt and Ethiopia and the Abraham Accords in the Middle East.
PAKISTAN NOMINATES TRUMP FOR 2026 NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
On the same day Pakistan officially nominated Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The government praised Trump’s role in helping stop the conflict with India during a recent crisis. They called his actions decisive diplomatic intervention and hailed his leadership as strategic and effective.
Trump said people often overlook what really matters and claimed he would likely not be awarded no matter what he does. But he added that bringing peace is more important than recognition.
India rejected Trump’s claims of mediation and insisted the ceasefire was arranged through direct military talks. Indian officials also said they had never accepted any external mediation and never will.
Still Trump’s allies see the Rwanda-Congo deal and Pakistan’s nomination as proof of his global peace record. Rubio hosted the treaty’s signing principles last month at the State Department.
