President Donald Trump has confirmed a press conference with Elon Musk at the White House on Friday at 1:30 P.M. EST. This appearance marks Musk’s final day in his government role though Trump hinted it will not be a farewell. His term ends May 30 which is the legal time limit for such appointments. Trump praised Musk saying “Elon is terrific” and added that Musk will continue helping behind the scenes.
“Elon is terrific... he will always be with us helping all the way.” — President Donald Trump
Musk thanked Trump for the chance to reduce wasteful spending in government. He posted that the DOGE mission will continue to grow stronger even after his exit.
Musk’s Role Ends but Trump Hints at Continued Influence
According to official records the department saved $175 billion through spending cuts contract cancellations and fraud crackdowns. That amounts to $1,087 saved per taxpayer. Despite these numbers critics in Congress raised concerns. Rep. Melanie Stansbury called Musk’s role reckless and illegal.
Another Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett claimed Musk acted like an unelected official. Still investors cheered his return to the private sector. Tesla stock jumped 4.2% this week following the announcement. Musk assured shareholders he will focus more on Tesla and SpaceX starting June. Trump remains confident that Musk will stay close as an advisor even after DOGE.
