President Trump was asked Friday if he would consider a pardon for rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs who faces multiple federal charges. Trump said he has not kept up with the trial but would be open to reviewing the facts if officially asked. Diddy is currently on trial for charges that include sex trafficking by force fraud or coercion as well as racketeering and drug transportation. If convicted he could face up to life in prison.
Trump responded to Fox News reporter Peter Doocy who asked about their past friendship and whether it would impact his decision. Trump said he had not seen or spoken to Diddy in years and that politics changed the nature of their relationship. He added that Diddy used to like him but began making negative remarks once he entered public office.
Trump said no one had asked for a pardon yet but some people seemed close to it. He emphasized that he would only consider a pardon based on facts and not friendship. He clarified that whether someone likes him or not would not matter in his decision.
Trump Prioritizes Facts over Fame
Trump made it clear that his duty is to serve the country and not cater to personalities or past friendships. He spoke about how entering politics changes how people view you and how priorities shift when making decisions that impact the nation. He defended his position by focusing on justice and fair treatment.
"It's not a popularity contest, so I don’t know; I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated. Whether they like me or don't like me, it wouldn't have any impact on me," Trump said.
He concluded by stressing that only justice would guide his choice on this matter.
